ABC Delivers No. 1 Playback Gainer for 2nd Straight Week

Excluding sports during the week of Nov. 9, 2020, ABC stood as the No. 1 entertainment network among Adults 18-49 in the Live+3 Day ratings (1.2/7), beating NBC by 20% (1.0/6), Fox by 50% (0.8/5) and CBS by 140% (0.5/3). ABC was the No. 1 entertainment network on 4 of the 7 days of the week with Adults 18-49: Monday (1.1/7-tie), Tuesday (1.6/9), Thursday (2.1/12) and Friday (0.8/6). ABC was also the week’s No. 1 entertainment network in Total Viewers (6.1 million).

Excluding sports, ABC grew by double digits for the 2nd straight week in both Total Viewers (+24% – 6.1 million vs. 4.9 million) andAdults 18-49 (+20% – 1.2/7 vs. 1.0/5) to score 6-week highs – since week of 9/28/20.

The season premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” was the No. 1 entertainment series of the week in Adults 18-49 (2.3/14) as ABC claimed 3 of the week’s Top 5:“Grey’s Anatomy” – No. 1, “The Bachelorette” (2.1/12) – No. 3 (tie) and the season premiere of “Station 19” (1.7/10) – No. 5 (tie). In fact, ABC’s“The Bachelorette” tied Fox’s “The Masked Singer” as the week’s highest-rated unscripted series for the first time ever with Adults 18-49 (2.1/12).

ABC claimed the week’s No. 1 gainer in TV playback in Total Viewers with “The Good Doctor” (+3.35 million) and in Adults 18-49 with “Grey’s Anatomy” (+0.9 rating points-tie). In fact, ABC delivered the No. 1 playback gainer for the 2nd week in a row in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

Monday

With “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Good Doctor,” ABC ranked as Monday’s No. 1 entertainment network for the 2nd week in a row among Adults 18-49 in the Live+3 Day ratings (1.1/7-tie). ABC also stood as Monday’s No. 1 entertainment network in Total Viewers (7.2 million-tie) and grew week to week by 3% (7.2 million vs. 7.0 million) to draw its largest audience on the night so far this season with entertainment programming.

 

“Dancing with the Stars” (8:00-10:00 p.m. – 6.8 million and 1.1/6 in AD18-49):

ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” grew over the prior week in both Total Viewers (+6% – 6.8 million vs. 6.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (+10% – 1.1/6 vs. 1.0/5) to hit 4-week highs – since 10/12/20.

 

“The Good Doctor” (10:00-11:00 p.m. – 8.1 million and 1.2/8 in AD18-49):

ABC’s “The Good Doctor” ranked as the No. 1 entertainment program in Monday’s 10 o’clock hour for the 2nd consecutive week in both Total Viewers (8.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.2/8).

“The Good Doctor” stood as Monday’s No. 1 gainer in TV playback in Total Viewers (+3.35 million) and Adults 18-49 (+0.6 rating points). In fact, the ABC drama soared by +100% over its initial Live+Same Day rating among Adults 18-49 (0.6/4) after 3 days of TV playback.

 

Tuesday

ABC won Tuesday night among Adults 18-49 (1.6/9), topping runner-up NBC by 14% in the Live+3 Day ratings (1.4/8). Excluding sports and news programming, ABC delivered its highest-rated Tuesday night so far this season in Adults 18-49 (1.6/9).

 

“The Bachelorette” (8:00-10:01 p.m. – 6.5 million and 2.1/12 in AD18-49):

“The Bachelorette” grew week to week by 5% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/12 vs. 2.0/11) to hit a new season high for the 3rd straight week. In addition, “The Bachelorette” drew its 2nd-biggest audience (6.5 million) so far this season.

ABC’s“The Bachelorette” ranked No. 1 in its 2-hour time period among Adults 18-49 (2.1/12), leading its nearest competition by 17% (1.8/11 for NBC).

 

Thursday

With the season premieres of “Station 19” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” ABC ranked as Thursday’s No. 1 entertainment network among Adults 18-49 in the Live+3 Day ratings (2.1/12), tripling its nearest competition with advantages of 200% over each NBC (0.7/4) and CBS (0.7/4). In fact, ABC beat CBS and NBC combined on the night by 50% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/12 vs. 1.4/8). ABC also stood as the night’s most-watched entertainment network (8.9 million). Excluding news programming, ABC hit season highs on the night in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

 

“Station 19” (8:00-9:00 p.m. – 8.5 million and 1.7/10 in AD18-49):

The season 4 premiere ofABC’s “Station 19” soared over the series’ May finale (on 5/14/20) by 31% with Adults 18-49 (1.7/10 vs. 1.3/7) to match its highest-rated telecast since its January season 3 premiere – since 1/23/20. “Station 19” also outdrew its finale by 12% in Total Viewers (8.5 million vs. 7.6 million) and topped its final 4 telecasts of the prior season. “Station 19” outdelivered its prior season average by 4% in Total Viewers (8.5 million vs. 8.2 million) andby 20% with Adults 18-49 (1.7/10 vs. 1.4/7).

The premiere of “Station 19” stood as Thursday’s No. 2 entertainment show in Adults 18-49 (1.7/10), behind only ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.”

“Grey’s Anatomy” (9:00-11:00 p.m. – 9.1 million and 2.3/14 in AD18-49):

The 2-hour season 17 premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” ranked as Thursday’s No. 1 entertainment series in Adults 18-49 (2.3/14). In fact, the “Grey’s Anatomy” premiere stood as the highest-rated scripted telecast on any night on any network so far this season among Adults 18-49, tying NBC’s “This Is Us” premiere.

“Grey’s Anatomy” grew over its year-ago premiere in Total Viewers (+1% – 9.1 million vs. 9.0 million) and held even among Adults 18-49 (2.3/14) to tie its highest-rated telecast since May 2019 – since 5/2/19. “Grey’s Anatomy” topped its prior season average by 3% in Total Viewers (8.8 million vs. 9.1 million) andby 10% with Adults 18-49 (2.3/14 vs. 2.1/10).

Spiking by +3.09 million viewers from Live+Same Day to Live+3 Day, “Grey’s Anatomy” delivered its biggest playback increase in Total Viewers in more than 5½ years – since 4/23/15. “Grey’s Anatomy” was Thursday’s No. 1 gainer in TV playback in both Total Viewers (+3.09 million) and Adults 18-49 (+0.9 rating points).

Friday

 

“Shark Tank” (8:00-9:01 p.m. – 5.3 million and 1.0/7 in AD18-49):

ABC’s “Shark Tank” ranked as Friday’s No. 1 program among Adults 18-49 in the Live+3 Day ratings (1.0/7), leading its nearest competition on the night by 25% (0.8/5 for Fox’s “WWE Friday Night Smackdown”). In addition, head-to-head in the 8 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Shark Tank” dominated NBC’s “The Blacklist” season premiere by 43% in Adults 18-49 (1.0/7 vs. 0.7/5).

“Shark Tank” grew over its most recent episode at 8:00 p.m. by 4% in Total Viewers (5.3 million vs. 5.1 million) and by 11% with Adults 18-49 (1.0/7 vs. 0.9/6) to hit new season highs.
