‘Nightline’ Grows Week to Week in Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49

Season to Date, ‘Nightline’ Is Leading CBS’ ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’ in Adults 25–54 and Adults 18–49


ABC News’ “Nightline” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (1.164 million) for the 2nd week in a row during the week of Dec. 31, 2018, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“Nightline” saw increases over the prior week (w/o 12/24/18) in Adults 25-54 (+6% – 409,000 vs. 391,000) and Adults 18-49 (+6% – 313,000 vs. 296,000).

Season to date, “Nightline” is leading CBS’ “The Late Late Show with James Corden” in Adults 25–54 (+30,000 – 458,000 vs. 428,000) and Adults 18–49 (+17,000 – 339,000 vs. 322,000).

Stories reported on Nightline last week included Terry Moran traveling to the haven for some of the best hackers in the world and to the frontline of a cyberwar; Nancy Pelosi, the first female Speaker, regaining the gavel as the most diverse freshman class entered Congress; and remembering the legacy of Tyler Trent, the inspiring Purdue fan who passed away Wednesday from bone cancer at the age of 20.

NOTE: On Monday (12/31/18), “Nightline” was preempted for “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” while CBS’ “The Late Late Show” was coded as a special. In addition, on Tuesday (1/1/19), all three programs were coded as specials. From Wednesday-Friday, regular telecasts of repeats of NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” were retitled to “Late Night with Seth Meyers-SM,” while regular telecasts of repeats of CBS’ “The Late Late Show” were retitled to “The Late Late Show with James Corden-JC.” ABC’s and CBS’ averages are based on three days (Wednesday–Friday), while NBC’s averages are based on four days (Monday and Wednesday–Friday).

ABC News’ “Nightline” is anchored by Dan Harris, Juju Chang and Byron Pitts. Steven Baker is executive producer. The program airs weeknights, from 12:35-1:05 a.m. EST, on The ABC Television Network. Together with “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Nightline” is part of ABC’s winning late-night strategy of airing news and entertainment programming.
