Head-to-Head, ‘20/20’ Special Beats the NBC Town Hall by Double Digits in All Key Target Demos: Total Viewers (+6% – 14.3 million vs. 13.5 million), Adults 18-49 (+36% – 3.0 vs. 2.2) and Adults 25-54 (+23% – 3.8 vs. 3.1)

 

‘20/20’ Special Draws ABC’s Largest Total Viewer Audience in 2-Hour Time Period in Over 10 Years and Strongest Non-Sports Performance in Adults 25-54 in Over 6 Years

 

‘20/20’ Special Delivers ABC’s Most-Watched Primetime Telecast in 8 Months and Grows Its Audience Across the Board From First Half-Hour to Third Half-Hour

 

 

ABC News’ “The Vice President and the People” live special edition of “20/20” with Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Biden ranked as the No. 1 program on Thursday across the board: Total Viewers (14.1 million), Adults 18-49 (3.0/17) and Adults 25-54 (3.8/17), based on Nielsen’s Live + Same Day National ratings. Leading in its 8:00-10:00 p.m. time slot, it drew ABC’s largest Total Viewer audience in the 2-hour time period in over 10 years and strongest non-sports performance in Adults 25-54 in over 6 years – since 1/7/10 and 9/25/14, respectively. The “20/20” special featured a 90-minute town hall followed by a 30-minute post-show.

 

“The Vice President and the People” stood as ABC’s most-watched primetime telecast in 8 months – since “The Oscars®” on 2/9/20.  

 

Head-to-head in the 8:00-9:00 p.m. hour, the “20/20” special outdelivered NBC News’ “Decision 2020: Trump Town Hall” by double digits in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+6% – 14.3 million vs. 13.5 million), Adults 18-49 (+36% – 3.0/18 vs. 2.2/12) and Adults 25-54 (+23% – 3.8/17 vs. 3.1/13). NOTE: NBC’s telecast was simulcast with ratings combined with MSNBC and CNBC.

 

From 8:00-9:30 p.m. (15.1 million, 3.2/19 and 4.1/18, respectively) during the town hall portion, the “20/20” special saw its audience increase throughout the course of its telecast growing from its first half-hour to its third half-hour in Total Viewers (+24% – 13.5 million to 16.7 million), Adults 18-49 (+41% – 2.7/17 to 3.8/21) and Adults 25-54 (+38% – 3.4/16. to 4.7/20).

 

The “20/20” special town hall with former Vice President Biden towered over ABC News’ special edition “20/20: The President and the People” town hall (9/15/20) with President Donald Trump by triple digits in Total Viewers (+253% – 14.1 million vs. 4.0 million), Adults 18-49 (+400% – 3.0/17 vs. 0.6/4) and Adults 25-54 (+280% – 3.8/17 vs. 1.0/4).

 

In preliminary numbers, ABC News Live’s simultaneous airing of the town hall and post-show analysis from 8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT/5:00-7:00 p.m. PDT delivered 3 million viewers and 1.8 million hours streamed across ABC News Owned platforms and available distributed platforms. The channel’s single-page stream on YouTube peaked at nearly 470K concurrent viewers.
